This post is legend...wait for it...dairy. I have said it before and will say it again...without the writers and NPH, How I Met Your Mother is a horrible sitcom. Perhaps we will just let Barney tell you in his own blog... ...part of what makes Barney so awesome is how they have created a website for each of those bizarro ones he mentions...the fact they actually have a blog for the character (see above)...and how they have built books off of the character.
Singing in the above vid is Joseph...son of John Williams (think Star Wars/Superman/Indiana Jones)...and yes, that is Paula Abdul dancing. That was from their alleged farewell concert... ...well, all great tunes, but there is always the classic...
In a bit of an 80s mood tonight...then again, when it comes to music, when am I not in an 80s mood? In fact, I'm in such a retro frame of mind tonight, I figured that I'd even drag back out the old "Awesome" posts that I have not added to since last summer. I have a picture...pinned to my wall...an image of you and of me and we're laughing and loving it all... Think this particular collection of cover versions is the best album I found in 2011...Duncan Sheik covering some of the great 80s tunes that I went through my teen years with... In violent times...you shouldn't have to sell your soul... Hearing Duncan take these tunes in a much less electronic version than the originals give them a real different feel as well. The fact that he [Read more...]
Heard someone talking about the Spice Girls at the Olympic closing ceremonies and how they looked so good that whether they were lip synching or not didn't matter. My mind immediately went to the response of: Dude (yes, I thought the word "Dude")...sorry, start over...Dude, my favourite band is Rush. Do you really think eye candy in music matters to me? Anyone who has read a few of my posts gets that I really like Rush. So...this time, thought I would create a list of music that they cannot win...being Rush are good Toronto boys (aka Canadian)... Now, I complain about the US a lot...mostly it is political and I try to keep it humorous...having lived in both countries, I expect my perspective is unique. "We're bigger, and we're on top. No...not talking bed linens this week...though that might be something to consider with the right volunteer assistant for a future post... I was listening to the radio yesterday during my trek into the city of Toronto and at one point the talking heads took up the subject of all the recent remake of old Arnie Schwarzenegger films and how generally bad they have been doing. Bad of an actor as he was/is, there was something about him that just worked. This led to a further discussion of other film and television remakes...good, bad, or yet to be made. The general consensus was that the original is always better. In most cases, this is probably true...we all remember Dr. Johnny Fever from WKRP in Cincinnati, but how many recall Mona [Read more...]
What a night at the theatre...well, afternoon, anyway. Was at a film this afternoon that has me rethinking my favourite set of films. In fact, as I write this, I have my account on IMDB open and looking at my ratings. So this week, I proudly give you six film selections...two are actually a series of films, so technically we are talking ten films in total...that I have rated 10 on IMDB. In fact, the only ones I have rated at 10. Honourable Mentions...films I have rated 9, in no particular order Star Trek: First Contact (1996) And Now For Something Completely Different (1971) Hudson Hawk (1991) The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003) The Matrix (1999)...no, not the trilogy...only the first one The Indiana Jones Series (1981, [Read more...]
Seems I have a cold and have been falling into a drunken stupor without the addition of anything beyond Nyquil the last few evenings. As such, forgive me...but I will be back. I had a wonderful story for yesterday's/today's Wicked Wednesday prompt, but just did not have the energy. I did have someone suggesting using my erection as an all-day sucker while I lay on the couch and sneezed...in one sense that sounds wonderful...until I had the image of snot in her hair, but typical...I get a cold and my mind actually leaves the proverbial erotic gutter. Also, a bit ironic that Toronto hits near 40 C degree temps...for our American siblings, that's roughly 110 F...and I get a cold. Oh well...anyhow, I'm sitting here in a house coat with a [Read more...]
This week's "Awesome" post will be my favourite home grown artists that I have listened to over my 40-something years...and, of course, number one is pretty obvious. Just shut up and play along, okay...don't make me get out the flogger. For the record (pun intended) I think fourth will surprise most who know me. Before I get into this, an honourable mention (note the random Canadian use of the letter 'u') goes to the Barenaked Ladies...a band that, since they fired their singer and have evolved, are pretty close to this list...but alas, close only counts in horse shoes and car insurance. 5) Kim Mitchell Let's start with some dancing in the fridge. Kim Mitchell has gone from long haired guitar rocker to bald radio DJ on Q107 here in [Read more...]
